Getting back on track

So it’s been awhile since my last post. Due to health reasons I had to defer my PhD but will be recommencing in December. I will also be doing my first conference presentation in December at the Australian Anthropological Society Conference!

This time off has given me a good time to think about my project and the direction it’s going to go in. I have been able to refine my scope and am excited to be getting back in to it. For my conference presentation I will be doing a brief run down of what I intend to do for my project. For those of you who will be unable to attend, I am coming to my project from the angle that in the Western bureaucratic system, identity  is something that is fixed and there is no, or little room, to move for people with an ambiguous identity. As my previous research has been on the stereotypes faced by Indigenous Australians, I wish to further this research by examining how Indigenous Australians use online worlds to assert agency in a world that may limit their agency due to the bureaucratic boundaries that constrain them.

That’s where my head is at for now anyway. As always, ideas mutate, which I have grown to love. I will be interested to see how much my idea mutates after my presentation. That’s it from me for now, going to get stuck back in to Weber, Goffman and Mead. BFN.
